What you actually pay for

The cost of an India eVisa for a British traveller is made up of two separate parts. Understanding the split matters, because the two behave very differently when it comes to refunds and price changes.

  • The Indian government visa fee. This is set, collected and retained by the Indian authorities. It depends on the visa category and the validity you choose, and it is denominated in US dollars.
  • The service fee. This covers reviewing your application, checking your passport and photograph against Indian specifications, secure GBP payment processing and customer support in British English before, during and after submission.
Because we are an independent editorial service and do not set the government fee, and because prices move with the exchange rate and the season, we do not quote fixed figures on this page. The full, live price in pounds is always shown on the application page before you pay.

What changes the price of an India eVisa

Two applicants can pay different amounts on the same day. These are the factors that move the number:

  • Visa category - tourist, business, medical and conference eVisas each carry a different government fee. See how the visa types compare.
  • Validity and entries - a 30-day single or double-entry tourist eVisa costs less than a one-year or five-year multiple-entry visa. The longer options usually offer better value per day of validity.
  • Season - the tourist eVisa government fee is lower in some months of the year and higher in the peak period, a pricing rule set by the Indian authorities.
  • Exchange rate - the government fee is fixed in US dollars, so the amount in GBP shifts with the pound-to-dollar rate on the day you apply.

Fee by visa type at a glance

The following is a guide to how the categories generally rank in cost, from lowest to highest government fee. It is not a price list - use it to understand the shape of the pricing, then check the live figure on the application page.

  • Tourist eVisa (30 days) - the lowest-cost option, ideal for a single UK holiday of up to a month. Read the tourist eVisa guide.
  • Tourist eVisa (1 year / 5 years) - a step up in fee, but far better value for repeat visitors or those with flexible dates.
  • Business eVisa - a higher government fee reflecting the one-year multiple-entry validity. Read the business eVisa guide.
  • Medical & Conference eVisas - priced according to their specific validity and entry rules. See the medical and conference guides.

How you pay from the UK

Payment is taken in pounds sterling by UK debit card, credit card or PayPal. The amount shown at checkout is the complete price - both the government visa fee and the service fee combined - so there is nothing further to pay when your eVisa is issued. You will not be charged a foreign-transaction fee by us, though your own bank's terms always apply.

Is the fee refundable?

The government visa fee is non-refundable once your application has been submitted to the Indian e-visa system, including where an application is later denied. The service fee may be partly refundable if you cancel before submission. The full rules, cancellation windows and how to request a refund are set out in our refund policy.

Getting the best value

For most British holidaymakers taking one trip, the 30-day tourist eVisa is the cheapest route. If you expect to return to India within the year, or your travel dates might move, the one-year multiple-entry tourist eVisa usually works out cheaper than applying twice. Whatever you choose, apply at least a week before departure so you are never forced into paying for an urgent turnaround. Our requirements page lists everything you need to have ready before you start.

Fee FAQs

Common questions about India eVisa cost

How much does an India eVisa cost from the UK?

The total is made up of the Indian government visa fee, which varies by visa type and validity, plus a service fee for application handling and UK support. Because the government fee is set in US dollars and changes by season for the tourist visa, the live price in GBP is shown on the application page before you pay. View current fees.

Why does the India eVisa fee change?

The government fee depends on the category, the validity you choose and, for the tourist eVisa, the time of year. It is denominated in US dollars, so the sterling amount also moves with the GBP to USD exchange rate.

Is the India eVisa fee refundable?

The government visa fee is non-refundable once submitted to the Indian e-visa system, including on denial. The service fee may be partly refundable before submission. See our refund policy for the full detail.

Are there any hidden charges?

No. The full price in GBP, covering both the government visa fee and the service fee, is displayed before you confirm payment. There are no extra charges added afterwards.
